Human post exposure anti-rabies prophylactic assistance in the south of Brazil

Rabies is a zoonosis caused by Lyssavirus, with progressive development and high lethality rate. In Brazil, rabies accidents animals potentially transmitting the disease are mandatory notification injuries. Exposure to infection places financial burden on public health systems, especially for care of people who exposed have risk death. We aimed define epidemiological profile human post-exposure assistance in municipality Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, from 2010 2015. Data Brazil’s Notifiable Diseases Information System were obtained analyzed; these data acquired completion individual inquiry forms querying anti-rabies assistance. A total 55% (1,898/3,453) cases involved women 45% (1,555/3,453) men. The highest occurrence (54.5%–1,882/3,453) was age group 20–59 years. Most registered (87.5%–3,024/3.453) dogs, followed cats (10.9%–378/3,453). lower limb (22.1%–617/2,790) area body number canine bites. observed incorrect indications treatment. suggest further training professionals prophylaxis care, dissemination information at educating users about importance animal-related
